Review: Ivy the Kiwi? (Wii)

August 24, 2010 in Internet, Technology by JC Fletcher

Prope's Ivy the Kiwi? is a simple game. It has a simple story: a newborn chick, still half-stuck in an egg, searches for her mother. It has simple gameplay: draw vines on the screen to propel Ivy through mazes, avoiding enemies and hazards. But despite (or maybe thanks to) its simplicity, it thrives: the presentation is almost unfairly charming, and Ivy is just plain fun to manipulate in the world. Surprise! Atlus’s ‘Catherine’ is really bizarre

August 19, 2010 in Internet, Technology by JC Fletcher

If you thought you knew what to expect from Catherine, the HD debut from Atlus's Persona team, you were probably wrong. The first screenshots of the action-adventure game for grown-ups are equal parts cheesecake and nightmare.

Main character Vincent is first seen dining with the beautiful Catherine, and then, um, walking around some kind of labyrinth in his underwear, gradually turning into a sheep. He is told he has to endlessly climb the stairs of this nightmare world in order to avoid death. Famitsu indicates that the "action" in this action-adventure takes place in this nightmare world. We expect to see those sheep creatures in our own nightmares soon enough.

We learn nothing at all of Samus's past in these clips, nor about her feelings, save for the fact that she feels like not being eaten by a lava worm thing. Instead, we see Metroid: Other M as we first imagined it: as a Metroid game with the speed and intensity of the combat dialed way up. We'll find out soon enough how realistic this version is.
